Farewell Fabrica

Sadly my time interning at Fabrica is drawing to a close, but there is time enough for one last blog post before I go. I have had great fun working with the Fabrica team over the last five weeks, and I hope the work that we have managed to achieve with the Exhibition Archive is of interest to our visitors. With such an impressive back catalogue of exhibits, it is something certainly worth taking a look at.
There has been quite a few ‘firsts’ for me whilst working at Fabrica, including podcasting with Laurence (now available on iTunes) and dining under a newly finished work of sculpture, courtesy of Frederic Guerts. The task of trawling through the list of Fabrica’s previous exhibitions has been a very rewarding one, and I have been introduced to a raft of talented artists and writers. My favourite discoveries so far would have to be Vincent Mauger for his forest of waveforms, the Undercroft, and John Grade for the meticulously constructed Elephant Bed. Both can be found in the Exhibition Archive, and there are time-lapse videos of the installations here and here.
But don’t think that Fabrica has seen the back of me just yet. With the Brighton Photo Biennial imminent and an exciting installation planned for Fabrica, I hope to return in the capacity of volunteer to lend a hand. It is also likely that one too many archive related sleepless nights may drive me back to the Fabrica office to get my fix of dusty fingers and slaving over a hot computer.
Thanks to Laurence and the team for making me feel so welcome, and to Jon Aizlewood the web designer for answering my torrent of impertinent questions. I wish Fabrica and all who sail in her the best of luck for the future, and I do not plan on being a stranger.

Bye Callum! Great working with you, and trust me – your questions were not impertinant. Hope to see you back soon.
It also must be mentioned that you have one of the best handlebar ‘taches I’ve seen this side of the Atlantic. Top marks.

Thanks Jon! You really were indispensable, I now negotiate Wordpress with previously unthinkable style and verve.
