Anjalika Sagar and Kodwo Eshun of The Otolith Group gave a very insightful talk at the opening of their new exhibition here at Fabrica.

Fabrica offer a programme of events, workshops and activities devised to maximise accessability and inclusion for individuals regardless of their abilities or any other aspects of their lives which may prevent them from engaging with visual arts.

Entitled Working With Diverse Audiences there are a few activities scheduled during the forthcoming exhibition (Otilith Group – opening April 13th).

Skate Arc is a project in development by artist Lulu Allison. Lulu is artist in residence based at Brighton Youth Centre, the project is a collaboration with Fabrica and Brighton Youth Centre

‘Power of the Crowd’ was an event organised by Fabrica in November 2011. Five guest speakers gave short presentations about what they thought was ‘Power of the crowd’ The event was filmed, and presented here using the speakers presentations along with the audio from the evening.

Fabrica recently commissioned John Drury and David Novelli from the School of Psychology at the University of Sussex to write a piece on the current thinking on crowd psychology and how it relates to the two film pieces in Gathering. In response to each exhibition, Fabrica volunteers produce a magazine of writing, drawing, painting and photography. The Response, Vol XI is out now featuring some amazing work around the themes of Gathering.

In preparation for the forthcoming The Power of the Crowd event, check out William H. Whyte’s The Social Life of Small Urban Spaces documentary. A fascinating documentary from the late 1980s, which looks at how people inhabit urban spaces.

On the 19 October Melanie Manchot came to Fabrica to talk about her work. In her illustrated presentation, Melanie elaborated on the ideas surrounding her current exhibition, Gathering.
