Animateur

Maria Jastrzębska – Animateur

During April and May 2012, Poet, Maria Jastrzębska will be Animateur at Fabrica. Her residency will run alongside the spring exhibition from The Otolith Group, a piece which uses film and poetry to explore notions of distance (within space, culture and relationships) and uses the sea as a central theme.

Maria writes about borders and in this residency she will be exploring the idea of the sea as a border between countries, cultures and languages. She would like to take us all on a journey, unsure of what we may find. As part of the residency Maria will be running workshops and maintaining a blog as well as developing her work. In her blog she asks everyone to participate and contribute to her project by asking three simple questions. View her blog and answer her questions by clicking this link unquietborder.wordpress.com

What is an Animateur?

Animateur is a french word that we at Fabrica use to describe our Residencies. Why Animateur? There is no literal translation for the word Animateur but in French it means so much more than ‘Artist in Residence’ – and we believe it is a much more appropriate word to describe our residency programmes. To be an animateur at Fabrica means that the participant is free to develop in their own way with their own processes.
