"The equipment free aspect of reality here has become the height of artifice; the sight of immediate reality has become an orchid in the land of technology. "Walter Benjamin
All archives attempt to create a material substitute for memory, a means to retrieve the past. The question of whether aspects of performance and time based art works can be retrieved in the present revolves around their relationship to other media; photography, video, or an accumulation of material traces, objects, souvenirs; fragments which partially “stand in” for the work.
