Events for artists
There are a range of events in Fabrica’s regular programme that are aimed specifically at artists or are of particular interest to artists, for example drawing classes, hands on workshops and artist talks.
As part of Fabrica’s Artist Development programme, we hold networking events for artists, present artist and curator talks, practical seminars, and discussion-based workshops covering practical topics such as making applications and writing artist statements.
Seminars are led by experienced artist advisors and participating artists get the opportunity to share experience and learn from each other as well as receiving well-researched tips on best practice.
We run advice sessions throughout the year for artists to discuss key issues relating to their professional development with the Artist Resource Manager and invited artists. Appointments last up to 1 hour and artists are asked to prepare questions and select images of their work in advance of the meeting.
Recent feedback on advice sessions and the other services we offer include:
I had a really useful hour with Susan Diab. Was very helpful to talk out the things I have been mulling over re: my practice. Helped to articulate and thereby clarify what I have been trying to sort out and plan for. Some further ways of proceeding became clear, and Susan helped by responding to what I was saying and offering her thoughts and possible avenues to pursue.
I consulted Caitlin after my initial application to the Arts Council was turned down. Caitlin was a great encouragement, and her insight prompted me to re-apply with an adjusted audience focus, successfully gaining the funding I needed.
Caitlin read through my almost completed application form for a Grants for the Arts from Arts Council England and the suggestions that she made, in particular about what to include in the ‘Links and Attachments’ section of the form, were extremely helpful. Moreover, after having spent several weeks working on the form in isolation it was very reassuring to be told that what Ihad written was fine, something that it’s much harder to judge when it is your own work and when so much rests on a positive outcome.
Appointments with Caitlin are available all year round and offer free impartial advice in relation to funding applications and proposals as well as other areas of professional development.
