FRAC Basse Normandie, Caen
Established in 1983 as part of the Ministry of Culture’s policy of decentralization FRAC (Fonds Régional d’Arts Contemporain) Basse-Normandie’s mission is to build for the region a collection that reflects contemporary design, to promote the collection and facilitate access to contemporary visual art to a wide audience and finally to produce and support contemporary art.
Today, FRAC Basse Normandie’s collection consists of more than 950 works by nearly 400 artists. Constantly changing, from abstract painting to photography the collection is centred on the landscape, portraiture, the body and architecture. More recently, contemporary society (urban, social and information systems) is questioned by works in diverse mediums (photography, sculpture, video, installation). A final section is devoted to works related to contemporary history.
Fabrica and FRAC worked together on the European-funded project Time and Place.
