In 1981 an independent socio-cultural centre was formed at a former wholesalers in central Aalst (Belgium) and theatre, dance, literature, punk music, jazz concerts and exhibitions were organised. Over the years the space has been transformed by architect Eugeen Liebaut who created the Netwerk Gallery. From here, the Netwerk organisation in its current form emerged and it is now recognised as a centre for visual arts and full performing arts centre.
Today their mission is to make the latest developments in the art world visible and accessible to the widest possible audience. Focusing on the visual arts, contextualized and placed in a national and international context, Netwerk delivers a vast program of exhibitions, lectures, workshops, screenings, concerts and residencies.
Fabrica and Netwerk are working together on the Understanding Territoriality project.
