As you move on from mid-life, you may find yourself wondering whether the best years are behind you or feeling that time is moving faster than ever. Many people fear a loss of independence as they edge towards later life. So, are we powerless? Far from it. Alongside the very real challenges of growing older, there is the potential to access a deeper inner strength and wisdom—often qualities we could not fully reach, or even imagine, in our younger years.
While many of us feel uncertain or ill-equipped when it comes to ageing, recent scientific research into neuroplasticity shows that change and growth remain possible throughout life. Our ability to adapt, learn, and reshape our perspectives does not end with age.
It is entirely natural to question who we are after major life changes, such as leaving work or experiencing the loss of a partner. Yet rather than becoming fixed or fossilised versions of our younger selves, we can continue to grow and develop—by consciously engaging with this next life stage and allowing it to shape us in new and meaningful ways.
At this session, we’ll discuss practical steps we can take to empower ourselves in the second half of life, drawing on both lived experience and emerging research, and creating space for reflection, shared insights, and questions.
