Semiconductor artists Joe Gerhardt and Ruth Jarman, have collaborated for over twenty years, producing a unique and innovative body of moving image works, sculptures and installations. Engaging with scientific data as an artistic material has been central to the practice of Semiconductor, with a particular interest in how such information represents physical phenomena that exist beyond the limits of our daily experiences. Their projects stand as scientific and technological mediations of nature, giving data a physical form that transcends the matter it represents. The artists highlight the ways in which our experience of nature is influenced by technology and media, and ultimately question our place within it.

Fabrica is currently presenting the UK premiere of Semiconductor's 2016 piece, Earthworks . Although the artists are based in Brighton, their most recent works have largely been commissioned and exhibited outside of the UK.

So, it's all the more exciting that we have the opportunity to hear Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt speak about their artistic approach with Laura McDermott, Creative Director at the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts (ACCA), University of Sussex, and who is planning to present Semiconductor's most recent work, Halo there in Spring 2021.
