Creative Action is a weekend film festival that includes: a screening programme of four cross-global features, a Brighton International Animation Festival partnership programme of international animated shorts, three inspiring and creative film workshops and a special real-life kickboxing demonstration.
The festival programme repositions action films from across the globe and across the ages by focusing on the artistry in action, showcasing the beauty of movement and creativity of stunts and combat. Readdressing the male dominated focus of action films, all features will showcase powerful female leads such as Franka Potente as Lola, Zhang Ziyi as Mei, and Meiko Kaji as Akemi, performing breath-taking action sequences.
Life Drawing: Exploring Action
Ahead of the screening between 7:30pm and 8:30pm we will be hosting a 1hr untutored life drawing session led by film programmer and artist Piers Courtney. The session will explore movement and action, inspired by Akemi's beautiful action sequences in Blind Woman's Curse.
Blind Woman's Curse / 1970 / 1hr25mins / Rated 15
My face is the same as any other about to fight: the face of a demon.
Akemi is a dragon tattooed leader of the Tachibana Yakuza clan. In a duel with a rival gang Akemi slashes the eyes of an opponent. The victim soon reappears to pursue Akemi’s gang in revenge, leaving a trail of dead Yakuza girls and their dragon tattoos skinned from their bodies.
