In this workshop, we will explore abstract and figurative drawing while a live duo performs an instrumental, experimental, and ambient set. We will respond to the sounds of the music through a range of drawing prompts. Then we will draw (clothed) musicians JJ Symon and Luca Bianco as they play the flute, rain drum, guitar and more.
‘Duality’ runs throughout the workshop. It appears in music and art coming together, the two musicians performing, and the collaboration of artist-facilitators Esther Lower and Ella Stewart.
The untutored session unfolds across 4 sections, progressing from 2-minute songs to 30 minutes of improvisation. Optional prompts guide each drawing. These include capturing the musicians’ movement and drawing to the rhythm. The music is structured alongside these to ease you into the process.
Towards the end, you will be invited to place your favourite drawing in a shared floor space, so that we can enjoy the variety of drawings together.
No life drawing experience is needed, and the workshop is open to all artistic abilities.
A range of drawing materials, including charcoal, ink, graphite sticks and pencils, will be provided along with a set of sheets of paper. We ask for a small cash donation if you would like to use additional paper.
