Presented in partnership with Fresh Perspectives, Fabrica’s young film programmers group. Fresh Perspectives selected My Life as a Courgette in response to Fabrica’s summer exhibition, My Crazy Family Golf by Lisa Watts, focusing on themes which explore complex care dynamics and family.
My Life as a Courgette is an Oscar-nominated, French-Swiss stop-motion film based on Gilles Paris’s book Autobiographie d’une courgette. Its frank and poignant story follows Icare, nicknamed Courgette, a young boy who is sent to a children's home. Courgette meets fellow youngsters with their own stories of complicated families.
“Combining the poetic possibilities of animation with the down-to-earth dialogue of tough real lives... this beautifully tender and empathetic film addresses kids and adults alike in clear and compassionate tones that span – and perhaps heal – generations.” Mark Kermode, The Guardian
