Get ready for a night of foot-stomping music, joyful dancing and big-hearted community spirit. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or you’ve never taken a do-si-do step in your life, this is the place to be. All you need to bring is yourself, your smiles and your best belly laughs. Absolutely no experience required.
Leading the revelry is Gill Emerson, one of Brighton’s most loved and highly sought-after callers. With her trademark clarity, wit and a dash of mischief, Gill will guide you through each dance—sometimes throwing in a cheeky extra move or two to keep everyone on their toes. Expect American square dances, line dances, circle dances and traditional American-style calling, with plenty of moments to chat, mingle and freestyle with old friends and brand-new ones.
The soundtrack for the night comes from the newly expanded Raven Hoedown party band:
Kirsten Hammond (fiddle), Dan Stewart (banjo), Chippy Mobbs (guitar), Jim Mortimore (double bass) and Gill Emerson (calling & fiddle).
After years of playing together, they’ve joined forces in a bigger, bolder formation with one mission: to deliver the irresistible groove of American Old-Time music and inspire you to dance like never before. Come and strut your stuff to the tunes they love—and can’t wait to share.
It’s the celebration that begins when the work is done—the moment the hoe is put down and the dancing starts. Think ceilidh energy with an American twist. Raven Hoedown blends called square dances with uncalled line dances and plenty of chances to move however feels good.
Not at all! Imagine a song with verses, choruses and the occasional middle-eight twist—that’s how a square dance flows. It’s flexible, responsive and adapted by the caller in real time. Gill reads the room, keeps everyone together and ensures the joy stays high, no matter your experience level.
So even if you think you have two left feet—don’t worry. You’re in excellent hands. Gill has called dances across the UK and Europe, from festivals to parties of all shapes and sizes. Her passion is bringing people together for events full of fun, laughter and shared celebration.
So come along and welcome in 2026 with a night of dancing and connection in the heart of Brighton.
