At the centre of Serge Attukwei Clottey’s dialogue with Ghana’s cultural history is the notion of performance as a daily activity. One notable work, My Mother’s Wardrobe, was presented at 1957 Gallery in 2016. Here the artist dressed in the clothes and jewellery of his recently deceased mother both as a tribute to her and as a provocation to Ghanaians, by questioning the typical gender roles in Ghanaian society. Another work, The Displaced (2018), conceived and presented in the exhibition as a video work, enacts the trade and migration story of the Clottey family. Together with his performance collective GoLokal, Clottey embarks on a symbolic pilgrimage of commemoration on Labadi Beach, Accra.

In this one-off, improvised performance the artist and GoLokal will respond to the the site and context of Fabrica, the city and the politics of the current time.
