Want to become a renegade map-maker and put Whitehawk at the centre of the world?
Making maps has never just been just about representing the real world - what we choose to place at the centre of a map changes the way we understand the world. And now artist Dan Thompson is inviting you to make the choices, creating a giant map that explores hope, optimism, and joy - and the only thing we know is that Whitehawk will be at the centre.
There will be two sessions taking place:
Friday 11 July, 3.30 - 5.30pm at Whitehawk Library
Saturday 12 July, 11am - 3pm at The Crew Club
You are welcome to drop in at any time whilst these sessions are taking place. Plus, on Saturday there will be pizza provided for anyone participating at around 12.30pm
This project is aimed at 11-16 year olds but we welcome attendees of all ages. No experience of maps - or art - needed.
“A map tells you where you’ve been, where you are, and where you’re going — in a sense it’s three tenses in one.”
