The In Between Gallery is a temporary gallery in the Fabrica window showing contemporary photography between Fabrica's main exhibition programme. We show work from two artists a year including an Open Call between December and April.
Under the Yuzu Tree is an on-going project in which Feiyi Wen works with mixed media, such as her family archive, photographs; paper ephemerals' texts; letters and video installation. She is constantly seeking traces of the uncertain identity of her own family history.
The investigation takes place through the fuzzy memories of family members oral stories. Wen's grandmother was born in the capital of Manchukuo, the puppet state in Northeast China during the Japanese occupation. By mixing up different material and testing the blurry distinction between documentation and fiction an attempt is made to put the fragmental pieces together into some kind of entity. Wen is focused on looking into how the narrative is altered from memory through images and the ambiguous nature contained within the everyday.
