With reference to Jordan Baseman's film How to Manage Stillness, which she narrates, Kate will reflect on the pervasive interest in the dead body and in particular its management immediately post death.
Kate will outline the modern practice of embalming, alongside what happens when a body is cremated and buried and invite members of the audience to consider what we want to happen to our own mortal remains, and why?
Kate Woodthorpe is a sociologist who specialises in death and dying. She is based at the Centre for Death and Society, University of Bath. bath.ac.uk/cdas
