This autumn, Fabrica presents BFI Amplified, a series of five film screenings exploring the stories, sounds and subcultures that shape contemporary Britain.
Programmed alongside our autumn exhibition One Song by Kadir Karababa, the series brings together films that explore migration, identity, belonging, memory and the experiences of young people navigating different cultures and communities.
From a British-Pakistani musician confronting illness and identity, to young people finding connection and possibility in the margins of society, each film offers a different perspective on the people, places and stories that make up contemporary UK culture.
Alongside the screenings, the programme includes a live oud performance and a special presentation from Fresh Perspectives, bringing different voices and approaches to the cinema experience.
Ish (15)
Tuesday 13 October, 7 - 9.30pm
A British-Pakistani musician's life is thrown into uncertainty when he is diagnosed with a serious illness. Ish explores identity, family, music and the pressures of finding your place between different worlds.
Mogul Mowgli (15)
Friday 16 October, 7 - 9.30pm
Riz Ahmed stars as a British-Pakistani rapper on the verge of his first international tour when illness suddenly forces him to confront his identity, family and cultural roots. A powerful film about ambition, heritage and belonging.
Limbo (12A) + live oud performance
Tuesday 20 October, 7 - 9.30pm
Set on a remote Scottish island, Limbo follows a group of asylum seekers waiting for news about their futures. With moments of humour and connection alongside its more difficult realities, the film offers a quietly moving portrait of displacement and friendship.
The screening will be accompanied by a live oud performance from Alaa Wehbi, connecting the film's themes of migration and belonging with the sounds of the Middle East.
Fresh Perspectives presents: The Passion of Remembrance (15)

Fresh Perspectives presents The Passion of Remembrance, a landmark film exploring Black British identity, history, memory and resistance. The screening forms part of Fresh Perspectives' programme of films that open up conversations around culture, identity and representation.
Last Swim (15)
Tuesday 27 October, 7–9.30pm
Set over the course of one day in London, Last Swim follows a group of Iranian-British teenagers as they spend their final day together before their lives begin to change. A tender coming-of-age story about friendship, uncertainty, identity and the future.
BFI Amplified runs alongside One Song by Kadir Karababa, an audio-visual exhibition exploring music, memory, migration and belonging through songs shared by women with experiences of migration or seeking sanctuary.
One Song is on display at Fabrica from 9 - 28 October, with free entry. Visitors can experience the exhibition before or after any of the BFI Amplified screenings.
