A one-off ‘Draw to Film’ event for anyone who wants to explore drawing, mark-making, music and film in new ways. Suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to artists, this special event will be a sensory entry point into the world of film, with a special projection of selected animations from the essential collection, ‘Inner Sanctums’ which comprises the best of the Quay Brothers’ short films.

Since the late 1970s, the identical twin Quay Brothers have made a unique contribution to animation in general and the puppet film in particular. Filtering arcane visual, literary, musical, cinematic and philosophical influences through their own utterly distinctive sensibility, each Quay film rivets the attention through hypnotic control of décor, camera, lighting, music and movement, evoking half-remembered dreams, fascinating and yet deeply unsettling in turn.

This event, led by experienced artist-facilitator, Jane Fordham, will be an opportunity to view and respond to visually inspiring films that lead drawing into new directions. You will be drawing in the dark and will be encouraged to capture not what is necessarily there but your sense of what you see.

• All necessary drawing materials are included in the ticket price, as well as a selection of tea and coffees.
• Participants will be invited to choose a setting which best suits them including easels, tables, board or the floor. Arrive early to secure a favoured setting.
• We recommend wearing warm layers.
• Fabrica’s cafe-bar will be open on site, selling a selection of wine, beer and snacks.
• Please note we are unable to admit late comers past 5.30pm so please arrive between 5pm-5.30pm to be admitted on time.
• Suitable for ages 15 and up, under 16's must be accompanied by a paying adult
