Fabrica is hosting Creative Action: An adrenaline-fueled weekend film festival celebrating the art of action with powerful female leads across global cinema, exciting film workshops, and real-life kickboxing thrills!

Creative Action is a weekend film festival that includes: a screening programme of four cross-global features, a Brighton International Animation Festival partnership programme of international animated shorts, three inspiring and creative film workshops and a special real-life kickboxing demonstration.

The festival programme repositions action films from across the globe and across the ages by focusing on the artistry in action, showcasing the beauty of movement and creativity of stunts and combat. Readdressing the male dominated focus of action films, all features will showcase powerful female leads such as Franka Potente as Lola, Zhang Ziyi as Mei, and Meiko Kaji as Akemi, performing breath-taking action sequences.

Workshop: Animated Action!

Join us for a thrilling workshop where you’ll dive into the world of animation and create a dynamic action sequence featuring some analogue animation magic!

Step into the Action: Think of your favourite action scenes—swishing lightsabers, slick kung fu moves, or breathtaking chase scenes. We’ll guide you through creating a simple storyboard of your pose to help you plan!

Capture the Moment: We’ll film your dynamic action pose, prepare the footage and print it out at 12 frames per second

Add the Magic: With paint pens and your imagination, you’ll bring your scene to life by adding animated details that pop off the page. Think swooshing lines, explosive sparks, anime-style speedlines, retro style ‘KABOOM’s and more!

Create Your Own Masterpiece: The frames will be scanned and animated digitally so you can watch your action as a unique piece of animated art that you can share and treasure. Resulting sequences will be projected in Fabrica, and shared with you digitally via email.

This project is possible with support of the BFI Film Audience Network, awarding funds from the National Lottery in order to bring this project to more audiences across the UK
