Artistic Adventures (8-12yrs)

Children's Summer Art Club

Workshops (20 August to 22 August 2024, 10.00am - 4.00pm)
A fun three-day summer art club for 8-12 year olds to spend time together in creative exploration.

Join us for some artistic adventures at Fabrica this summer, where children will collaborate in engaging individual and group creative activities with an emphasis on using natural materials and being inspired by the world around us. We will explore the power of art for well-being, self-expression and a sense of belonging.

Immersive and inspiring workshops will encourage creativity, development of new skills and artistic expression within the arts. We will go on nature walks and be based in Fabrica’s large gallery space for the duration, which offers a calming and restorative environment for this final phase of the summer holidays. This is the perfect opportunity to be curious, explore and develop creativity while also recharging before the new school term.

Day One will be a chance to meet each other and begin thinking about ourselves as a collective of artists. Be yourself and explore your interests in a supportive group that finds and celebrates ways that together we can shape our ideas into reality. We’ll play and explore working with clay, ink and other tactile mediums.

Day Two we will develop our ideas with guidance from our experienced artist facilitators. We will work with natural materials to make dyes and brushes to explore fabric painting and printing. We’ll make dens in the gallery, creating our own wild wooden spaces for creative thinking and reflection.

Day Three will be a day to build on what we’ve learned already, and what has inspired us. We’ll test what we can do with our ideas and create new works of our own. Day three will also be a time for reflection and sharing. There will be a relaxed exhibition of what we’ve made and done, with a mixture of works in progress and pieces we’re proud of, and reflection on the three days we’ve spent together. Families and guardians are welcome to arrive early on day three to see the exhibits and collect any pieces you want to take home.

Outings:

There will be one or more outings to Friends Meeting House gardens – this will be weather dependent and could happen on one or more of the days. There will be at least one adult per five children on any outings.

There will be a minimum of 8 children, and a maximum of 16 children at our Summer Art Club, to retain a good level of 1-2-1 and group activities, providing an inclusive and supportive environment where children can make connections at their own pace.

Artist Facilitator:

Lynn Weddle has been working in gallery education for 20 years. She has a sensitive, improvisational approach, with significant experience working with people in diverse settings. Lynn has a profound commitment to the power of art and conversation to allow us to learn and understand more about ourselves, others, and our environment and an intuitive talent for creating spaces to share and learn. Lynn creates opportunities for others to control their own image, art making and representation. Lynn has run arts-based projects, residencies and commissions with the British Museum, Tate Modern, National Maritime Museum, Photoworks, Focal Point gallery, Towner, Save the Children and Pallant House Gallery.

Lynn will be supported by a team of Engagement Producers who will support the running of the project.

“It's been really fun, because there were lots of mini projects to try and enjoy. I particularly enjoyed working with clay and the big group drawing. The gallery was great because it's big and we had it to ourselves so we could run about and play. I would love to come again next year.”

Lilly, aged 10 (Fabrica Summer Art Club 2023)
