Finance Officer (freelance)

2-8 days per month

This is a freelance position. We are accepting expressions of interest for the vacancy on a rolling basis as we are keen to find the right individual for the role. We have some flexibility about the specific responsibilities covered by the role and the working hours. Day rate to be agreed depending on candidate experience and the duties agreed upon.

This role is ideal for someone who combines financial expertise with a collaborative approach and a commitment to supporting a creative, community-focused charity.

We are looking for someone with experience of working within a charity.

Based in our beautiful Grade II* listed building in Brighton’s historic Lanes, Fabrica is a contemporary arts space where people can experience culture in unexpected ways. Through exhibitions, film screenings, music events, workshops, arts residencies, performances and community-led activities we bring people together to experience art and explore creativity and learning. Alongside our arts programme we also hire our venue to a wide range of individuals, companies and charities, generating income for our charitable work and the upkeep of our building.

We are a charity with a trading subsidiary and therefore our financial processes work across charitable and business reporting.

Ideally, we are looking for an experienced Finance Officer who is confident with charitable financial processes, who can ensure our day-to-day processes are on track and coordinate the reporting and financial management which our Accountants oversee. Someone who can liaise with our accountants to communicate reporting timelines, review reporting, and identify any issues.

We would also consider a suitable candidate with the potential to learn and grow into the role, taking on more responsibility over time.

As Finance Officer, you will coordinate the financial management of the organisation, working with our Administrator to ensure the day-to-day bookkeeping and payments are running smoothly, and liaising with our Accountants to support our financial planning, reporting and governance. With Fabrica’s Director and Trustees, you will play a role in ensuring Fabrica’s financial systems are robust, transparent, and compliant with the requirements of regulators including the Charity Commission, Companies House and HMRC.

Working with the Administrator, you will ensure that accurate records are maintained across income, expenditure, petty cash and banking.

You will also support funding applications, by providing financial reports to funders, and the financial monitoring of both Fabrica and its trading subsidiary, Fabrica Enterprises Ltd.

In terms of providing reports for the Director and Trustees, you’ll support or be responsible for the quarterly management accounts, cashflow forecasting, and monitoring spend against our projected budget. You’ll also undertake payroll, prepare VAT returns and the year-end processes, as well as acting as the point of contact for auditors.
